Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Chooses ONStor to Preserve Data
ONStor NAS Gateways ease-of-use streamlines data migration, saves consultant costs

CAMPBELL, CA – June 7, 2006 - ONStor, a leader in open enterprise NAS Gateway solutions, today announced that its Bobcat 2240 Gateway has been chosen by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) as the solution used in storing critical mapping data. The ONStor Bobcat allowed the WDFW to seamlessly migrate data from its previous NAS infrastructure while providing an open storage solution compatible with its newly installed Storage Area Network (SAN), delivering cost and time savings.

“We get to observe wildlife migration from a distance, but when it comes to data migration, we’re completely hands-on,” said Don Saul, the ArcIMS administrator for WDFW. “Our previous NAS device needed to be replaced, and we had no budget for outside services to manage the transition. ONStor came in and provided an easy-to-use solution that installed quickly and let us move our data without disruption and without the need for costly consultants.”

With its previous NAS device no longer supported by the original vendor, WDFW was able to implement the new ONStor Bobcat, execute an orderly data migration, and phase out the old device in less than one month. The resulting implementation saved WDFW additional cost by allowing them to leverage an existing IBM SAN, rather than buying additional storage to support the new deployment.

“Organizations such as the WDFW are faced with the challenge of managing substantial data sets on a modest budget, said Jon Toor, vice president of marketing at ONStor. By leveraging the ease of use and interoperability of the ONStor Bobcat, WDFW was able to remain within its budget, perform the implementation in house, and most importantly, allow its scientists to continue their studies without interruption.

ONStor's Bobcat series of easy-to-deploy and simple-to-manage NAS Gateways deliver scalable, shared storage to Windows, UNIX, Linux, and Mac clients and servers. Because ONStor NAS Gateways are interoperable with the industry's broadest range of storage arrays, customers are free to choose the storage that best fits their business needs.
