  • Bob Miller
    Chairman and CEO

    Before joining ONStor, Bob Miller was the chief executive officer and founder of Slam Dunk Networks, which operates the Internet's first and only global infrastructure to guarantee delivery and tracking of transaction messages. Prior to that, Bob served as founder and CEO of NeTpower, and as CEO of MIPS, the developer of the industry's first 64-bit microprocessor. At MIPS, Bob spearheaded the company's initial public offering and subsequent purchase by SGI (formerly Silicon Graphics). Bob has also held senior management and engineering positions at Data General and at IBM. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Bucknell University and an M.S. in Thermodynamics from Stanford University and is a licensed Professional Engineer. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Slam Dunk Networks, BeVocal and Contivo. Bob is also a Life Trustee of the Urban Institute.

  • Kevin Fong
    Managing Director
    GSR Ventures

    Mr. Fong has been a technology manager, entrepreneur, and co-leader of a top tier Silicon Valley venture fund, Mayfield Fund. He has also sponsored the launche of a China based venture fund, GSR Ventures. He has been involved in over 54 company investments between 1988 and 2008. Of those 9 have gone public and 15 have been acquired generating over $1 billion in returns to limited partners. Those public companies include: S3 (Nasdaq; SII), ALANTEC (Nasdaq: ALTC), Legato Systems (Nasdaq: LGTO), Interwave Communications (Nasdaq: INTW), Latitude Communications (Nasdaq: LATD), Vixel (Nasdaq: VIXL), Prism Solutions (Nasdaq: PRSM), Redback Networks (Nasdaq: RDBK), Citrix Systems (Nasdaq: CTXS), and 3Par (NYSE: PAR). During his tenure at Mayfield Fund, Mr. Fong was a Managing Director in 7 venture funds, participating in the raising of 5 of them over the last 20 years with over $2 billion in capital raised. In 2004, Mr. Fong put together a strategy for creating a venture fund in China and helped launch GSR Ventures where he helped raise he first two funds. GSR has raised a total over 3 funds totaling almost $600 million under management focused on early-stage tech investing in China. He is Managing Director of GSR II and is an advisor to the Principals there. His work with GSR is similar to what he will contribute to GCube and includes: Helping define Fund investment strategies, portfolio investment advice, partnership operations, recruiting, and mentoring.

    He is currently non-executive Chairman of 3Par, Inc. (NYSE: PAR) and chair of the Compensation Committee.

    Kevin was formerly on the Board of the Western Association of Venture Capitalists, and is currently on the Board of Trustees of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation and was formerly on the board of the Community Foundation Silicon Valley. He is the co-founder of Silicon Valley Social Ventures (SV2) and is an invited member of the American Leadership Forum. His work is prominent within the philanthropic community and has been nationally recognized at the White House Conference on Philanthropy.

    Kevin holds an MBA and an MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.

  • Dr. Edward H. Frank

    Dr. Edward Frank, a technology pacesetter with more than 40 patents to his name, chairs ONStor's Technical Committee. The Technical Committee is tasked with assuring that ONStor product development programs successfully identify and integrate emerging technologies to meet ever-evolving customer requirements, multiply ONStor's technological advantages, and drive future sales.

    A serial entrepreneur and industry veteran, Dr. Frank has spent more than 30 years developing and delivering award-winning high-performance computing and networking products. Most recently he served as vice president of research and development at Broadcom, where he spent eight years innovating in new markets, such as the 802.11 networking space in which Broadcom enjoys a leadership position. He joined Broadcom following its acquisition of Epigram, a home-networking company he co-founded in 1996. Before Epigram, Dr. Frank co-founded NeTpower, a high-performance workstation company. Earlier in his career, he worked for Sun Microsystems, where he played a principal role in the creation of several generations of SPARCstations and in Sun's Green Project, which gave rise to the Java programming language.

    Dr. Frank earned a bachelor's and master's degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University and a doctorate in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University, where he serves as a trustee.

  • William (Bill) H. Kurtz
    Bloom Energy

    Bill has more than 25 years experience serving as either Chief Financial Officer or COO & CFO for such leading Silicon Valley companies as Novellus Systems, Inc., Engenio Information Technologies and 3PAR Data, Inc.

    Bill currently sits on the Board of Directors for PMC-Sierra Inc and is Chair of their Audit Committee. He also was a member of the Board of Directors and Audit Committee Chair for Redback Networks, Inc for 8 years until Redback was acquired in 2007.

    He joined Bloom Energy in 2008 and is responsible for the company's worldwide finance and administrative functions, including accounting, finance, human resources, legal, information technologies, facilities, treasury, tax, and investor relations.

    Prior to joining Bloom Energy, Kurtz was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Novellus Systems, Inc., a global semiconductor equipment company and was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Engenio Information Technologies, Inc. Prior to Engenio, Bill held Senior Financial positions and served as Chief Operating Officer & Chief Financial Officer for 3PAR Data, Inc., Chief Financial Officer for Scient Corporation and was a Division CFO at AT&T.

    Bill began his career in public accounting and earned his CPA certification at Price Waterhouse, now PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

    He holds a bachelor's degree in Commerce (major in Accounting) from Rider University and a Master's degree in Management Sciences from Stanford University.

  • David Ladd
    Venture Partner
    Mayfield Fund

    With his deep engineering experience and networking expertise, David Ladd serves as Mayfield's communications & VoIP expert.

    David, a successful former entrepreneur, sits on the boards of Casabi, Inphi, LV Sensors, ONStor, Pixim, T-RAM, TimeBridge and WaveSplitter. David's notable past investments include Orative (acquired by Cisco) and LGC Wireless (acquired by ADC Telecommunications).

    David was an early engineer at ROLM Corporation. After eight years at ROLM, he co-founded voice messaging company Opcom/VMX, which grew to a $100 million publicly held company. In 1994, VMX merged with Octel Communications and David became CTO. After Lucent Technologies acquired Octel in 1997, David joined Mayfield part-time while continuing to help Lucent form spin-out companies based on Bell Labs technology. David joined Mayfield full-time in May 1999.

    David holds a B.S. degree in Engineering Physics from U.C. Berkeley and an M.S. in Computer Science from Stevens Institute of Technology.

    He is an avid sailor and can be found frequently on his boat in the San Francisco Bay.

  • Mike Schuh

    Mike has more than 30 years of experience in the software industry, including four with technology start-ups. Twice in his career, Mike has created market-leading enterprise software companies: Computervision in the CAD/CAM market and Cadence in EDA (Electronic Design Automation). There are very few operational challenges Mike has not faced and tackled successfully somewhere along the line.

    Before joining Foundation Capital in 1998, Mike was CEO, co-founder, and chairman of the board of Intrinsa Corporation, a software applications company that was acquired by Microsoft. Mike was the vice president of sales at Clarify, Cadence Design Systems and Computervision prior to co-founding Intrinsa. Mike currently serves on the boards of Netflix, Responsys, Barcelona, BoardVantage, CoWare, ONStor and Jasper Design Automation.

    Mike has been a passionate runner for more than 25 years, and has successfully completed 20 marathons. Mike devotes a considerable amount of his spare time to wine business in the Sonoma Valley. Mike received a BSEE from the University of Maryland.
